About China Coastal Low Carbon Fuel Regulations

An International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) working paper published in June 2022 found it was essential for China’s coastal shipping sector to implement low-carbon marine fuel regulations no later than 2030 – in order for the country to meet its 2060 carbon neutrality goal. The policy actions considered were split between improved energy efficiency and cutting carbon intensity of shipping through low-carbon fuels. For both action scenarios, the carbon intensity policies were projected on two different schedules.

Currently however, scope, impact and mitigatory measures of this legislation remains unknown.
