Sustainable Ships developed a comparative business case tool to assess ammonia versus LNG as marine fuels.
Ten08 required a clear and credible way to demonstrate the commercial implications of switching from LNG to ammonia as a marine fuel. The objective was to translate complex fuel characteristics, regulatory impacts, and cost assumptions into a transparent comparison that could be used in discussions with shipowners considering future fuel pathways.
Sustainable Ships developed an ammonia–LNG comparison model within a short timeframe, delivered both as an Excel-based model and an interactive web tool. The tool allows users to compare the business case of operating on ammonia versus LNG, incorporating fuel costs, emissions, and compliance impacts under FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS. The model supports Ten08’s plans for ammonia production infrastructure in the United States and provides shipowners with a structured basis for evaluating cost-effective decarbonisation options.
