Sustainable Ships assisted HEBO in evaluating decarbonization pathways and regulatory compliance strategies for its fleet.

HEBO sought to better understand how different decarbonization options would impact the cost, operation, and regulatory compliance of its fleet. The objective was not only to assess technical feasibility, but to determine which measures make sense from a long-term economic and regulatory perspective.

Sustainable Ships assisted HEBO by analysing multiple decarbonisation pathways, with particular attention to battery hybridisation and the use of alternative fuels. The work went beyond technical parameters such as engine usage and operational profiles, and included close cooperation with the client to develop a tailored strategy aligned with current and upcoming regulatory requirements. The outcome provided HEBO with a clearer basis for prioritising decarbonisation measures across its fleet.

“Sustainable Ships embarked us on a journey to uncover which sustainability measures would deliver the biggest bang for our buck. Through this process, we gained invaluable insights into the key factors driving the decarbonization of our fleet. It was an educational experience, helping us to make a strategy and on what to focus in the future. The journey went beyond the nitty-gritty technical details - like operational profiles or engine usage. We also focused on the cost-effectiveness of different decarbonization measures to make sure the measures make sense for our ships. Looking back, we are grateful for the guidance in navigating the complex landscape of sustainability.”
