Forsa
Sustainable Ships assisted a shipowner in exploring decarbonisation pathways and long-term fleet decisions.
Forsa required a structured assessment of how different decarbonisation strategies would affect the long-term operation of a general cargo vessel. The objective was to understand the trade-offs between technical options, fuel choices, and regulatory compliance, and to compare the implications of newbuild versus retrofit strategies over time.
Sustainable Ships assisted Forsa by analysing multiple decarbonisation pathways, with particular focus on vessel hybridisation and the use of biofuels. A detailed scenario planning framework was developed to allow rapid comparison of newbuild and refit options, incorporating key OPEX parameters and regulatory compliance costs. The analysis provided Forsa with a clear basis for evaluating alternative investment and transition pathways.

“Sustainable ships helped us to navigate in complicated decarbonization landscape. We looked into requirements of ETS, MRV, IMO, FuelEU, EEXI. We explored the topics with Vincent at various angles and discussed possible solutions. Both technological retrofits and rules compliance. The learning process was fast and as a result we have much better understanding about decarbonization challenges and solutions.”
